Time to end Tories' school cuts

Responding to the news published tonight in The Guardian that the Government intends to announce an increase in schools funding "within days", Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary Layla Moran MP said:

Schools will await this announcement with a mixture of expectation and dread. They had already been promised more funding in the final days of Theresa May's premiership, only to see the money disappear in a puff of smoke. This time, Boris Johnson must put his money where his mouth is.

Headteachers will be desperate to know what this means for front-line budgets meanwhile, the Conservatives' ideological obsession with academies will continue. Schools will waste thousands of pounds being forced against their will to convert to a new structure that will do nothing to improve pupils' life chances.

Liberal Democrats demand better for our children. Teachers will not forgive the Conservatives if they are forced to waste this money on a pointless reorganisation, rather than on new teachers and support staff. We must end school cuts now, so that pupils can get the resources they need to learn."
